June
6, 2004 was the 60th Anniversary of D-Day. This is when the
Allied Forces landed on the beaches of Normandy. There were a
lot
of documentaries on TV showing how pivotal this was to the Allies
winning the war. I thought, 'Hmmm, Dad was in the Air Force
in
WWII, I wonder if he was any part of this important event.' I
called my mother to get her to check Dad's
logbook to see if flew on that day. Sure enough, he had flown
on
an operation on the evening of June 6, 1944. This peaked my
curiosity, and from then on I began researching my father's time in
World War II. He was a Wireless Air Gunner in the RCAF.
This website is a small tribute to him; a culmination of all
of
the data I have collected. From entering the service in
August of
1941, to being repatriated in December of 1944, my goal was to share
and preserve this valuable information to any and all who may be
interested.
